The College of Education offers 4 Majors, 1 Minor, 1 Associate of Arts, 2 Undergraduate Certificates, 2 Master’s Degrees, 3 Graduate Endorsements, 1 Graduate Specialization and 3 Graduate Certificates. The college is home to Eastern Oregon University’s (EOU) professional programs in Teacher Education and the Master of Science in Education. Approximately one-third of EOU’s graduates select majors or licensure programs offered by the College. The faculty of the College of Education is dedicated to meeting the University’s mission of serving rural Oregon and beyond through professional programs of instruction, research, and service. We have a special commitment to the educational needs of public schools and teachers in the eastern region of Oregon.
The faculty of the College is committed to quality learning opportunities for our students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each program is grounded in current theory and substantial content subject mastery matched with opportunities for application including field experiences and clinical practice.
The College of Education offers three undergraduate educator preparation programs. The undergraduate educator preparatory program for elementary teachers is a major in Elementary Education with an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) concentration. The special education initial teacher licensure (SEITL) undergraduate program has a generalist focus that prepares students to teach prekindergarten to grade 12 assignments in special education. Students who transfer with an AAOT or equivalent degree complete the relevant Content Area Pathway in lieu of the full Multidisciplinary Studies major. In addition, at the undergraduate level the College of Education offers a major in Early Childhood Education, and a minor or a concentration in ESOL. At the graduate level, the College of Education offers two degree programs, the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and the Master of Science (MS). The MAT program is an educator preparation program leading to preliminary teacher licensure in the state of Oregon. The MS program is a master’s degree focused on a concentration and research. It does not lead to preliminary teacher licensure. At the graduate level, the College of Education also offers endorsement preparation programs in ESOL, Special Education, Reading Intervention and a specialization in Trauma in the Educational Communities. Courses in these programs can be applied towards the MS program.
The goal of the College of Education is to prepare our graduates for life in a complex society by providing each student with the opportunity to develop those characteristics that distinguish the educated citizen. The College provides students with the opportunity to develop proficiencies in the following University Learning Outcomes:
