A total of 45 credits are needed to complete the certificate. The Certificate in Education is designed to lead to the AA in Elementary Education. Both are benchmarks toward entry into a teacher preparation program, specifically the Multidisciplinary Studies & Elementary Education/ESOL degree. The certificate guides the freshman year but also can serve as a stand-alone preparation for work. All courses listed for the Certificate in Education apply toward the Multidisciplinary Studies major and support the student in advancing toward a bachelor’s degree.
The certificate alone is valuable for those seeking employment as educational assistants in K-12 education or for those working in early childhood settings. It is also useful for those wishing to enter into social services types of employment. On-campus-only certificate.
