Program Overview

Target Audience: The certificate is ideal for K-12 educators, informal educators, and individuals involved in natural resources or other environmental based community engagement.

Format: Courses are offered in flexible formats, including online and hybrid options, making it accessible for working professionals.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Be competent in the skills and understandings pertaining to environmental literacy that are outlined in NAAEE Guidelines for Excellence K-12 Environmental Education. 
  • Understand the goals, theory, practice, and history of the field of environmental education.
  • Understand and accept the professional responsibilities associated with practicing environmental education.
  • Combine the fundamentals of high-quality education with the unique features of environmental education to design and implement effective instruction.
  • Support learners in engaging in open inquiry and investigation, especially when considering environmental issues that are controversial, and encourage learners to reflect on their own and others’ perspectives.
  • Possess the knowledge, skills, and commitment to make assessment and evaluation integral to instruction and program outcomes.
