English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Minor

A minimum of 30 graded credit hours

At least 28 credit hours must be upper division

A minimum grade of “C-” is required in all courses counting toward the minor and a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.00 is required to complete the minor. 

A minimum of 15 graded credit hours counting toward the minor must be completed at Eastern Oregon University. S/U courses may not be elected for program requirements.

All transfer courses must be approved by the ESOL team leader, a syllabus is required for each ESOL course.

ESOL program practica (90 hours) must be completed at EOU, which includes ED 421 , ED 421L  and ED 479 . [On-campus only minor]

It is a useful minor for those who wish to teach English in linguistically diverse schools in the United States, and for those who wish to teach English as a foreign language in another country. In addition, this minor provides opportunities for students in a variety of programs to learn more about diversity in the United States in the meaningful context of language studies.}}

Candidates may add the ESOL endorsement to a license by completing the course of study; including 90 clock hours of  practicum, and obtaining a passing score on the TSPC-designated test.}}
