SOC 365 - Communities*SSC

Credits: 5

This course is designed to help students grasp the dimensions and sociological importance of the concept of community. For the most part we all live in communities of place, but belong to other ‘communities’ as well. In this class we will focus more on rural community, using the city of La Grande (and possibly outlying towns) as a template to pull together useful concepts and means of gathering information and data from a variety of sources to inform our understanding of what constitutes a community, and how it affects our lives, and how we can, through research-based projects, contribute to informed community responses to change.
