SPED 416 - Evidence-based Curriculum and Instructional Design II: Moderate to Severe Disabilities


Credits: 4

The purpose of this course is to provide students with information on effective, evidence-based curriculum and instructional design practices that meet the needs of exceptional learners with moderate to severe disabilities. Students will be introduced to models of curriculum development, procedures for identifying curriculum priorities across content areas, relationships between curriculum and instructional settings. Additionally, students will learn and develop effective, instructional design plans in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies content areas, curriculum with a scope and sequence that is tailored to the individual characteristics of a diverse body of exceptional learners with moderate to severe disabilities, in addition to making this curriculum accessible through the use of accommodations and modifications. Students will be introduced to generic strategies and principles of learning, instructional formats, and strategies for informal assessment. Application of these strategies, principles, and formats will be in the context of instruction for both individuals and groups of students with moderate to severe disabilities.
