SPED 415 - Career Development and Transition Planning for Exceptional Learners


Credits: 4

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the elements of transition principles and components involved in the development of individualized transition plans (ITP) for adulthood. Specific focus will be on methods and approaches for the development of student-centered functional, social, and adaptive skills necessary for success in postsecondary educational settings, employment, independent living, and in the community that include strong self-determination components. Strategies for effective collaboration with outside service providers and families of students will be emphasized. Additionally, strategies for involving students in student-centered transition planning will be presented.

Prerequisites: Admission to program.
