SPED 317 - Special Education and the Law

Credits: 2

The purpose of this course is to address the legal aspects of special education. Specific focus is on the legal foundations of special education and the substantive and procedural requirements that the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, its regulations, and litigation have placed on school officials. Additionally, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act are introduced.

Prerequisites: Admission to Program.
